…prisoners is a long-term cash cow for the owners of private prisons (many of whom are also local sheriffs according to the series).
…“Louisiana’s incarceration rate is nearly triple Iran’s, seven times China’s and 10 times Germany’s” – in most societies, locking people up is costly. In America, it’s profitable.
Sir Richard Branson, you know the Virgin guy, posted on his blog about an op-ed piece in the NY Times. It drew attention to an eight-part series,by the Times-Picayune, LOUISIANA INCARCERATED How we built the world’s prison capital, that chronicles how Louisiana became the prison capital of America.
I don’t often make a lot of political topic post on Wryt.Me but this one caught my attention.
Wouldn’t money be better spent before a person reaches the incarceration stage? My wife is a teacher and there are times I think “Is she really making a difference?” I’m a SAHD and I worry about what the future brings for my daughter, what type of future are we leaving children.
Hover Parents, Soccer Ball parents, Vegan Friendly Families… what about some discussion on school funding or the lack of it, programs to help parents develop skills that they can pass on to children? Why are we pumping more money in to prisons that in to our children’s future?
Why spend money fighting over stupid stuff?
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A group wants a grand jury to decide whether a partially nude statue in a suburban Kansas City park is obscene.
Phillip Cosby, Missouri and Kansas director American Family Association, said Wednesday his group objects to the statue at the Overland Park Arboretum because it portrays a woman taking a photo of herself while her breasts are exposed.
If politicians would consider investing in our future (our children) and not in their own interest we’d be a lot better off. The blame doesn’t just fall on the politicians, the largest part falls on the electorate, the public.
Our job as good citizens is to work for a better society. We can’t just think of ourselves and forget about our neighbors and our community. Our job is to place people in leadership roles that will work in the interest of society. Not their own interest.

Pelosi, Democrats raise money off Boehner remark
By J. Scott Applewhite, AP
House Speaker John Boehner’s comment that there’s a chance of Republicans losing the majority in November has turned into a fundraising opportunity for Democrats.
Doesn’t matter if you are a parent or not, if you are Republican or Democrat, Mormon, Protestant, Presbyterian, Catholic or Atheist, our future is in the children.
IMHO: It is time to fund education before incarnation.
